The Institute of Directors (IoD) is an association of members that forms a network reaching into every corner of the business community. The IoD Northern Ireland Charity of the Year is Simon Community NI. The organisation supports people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Along with emergency accommodation, Simon Community provide a range of services, advice and community support.
A 24 hour/ 7 days a week freephone helpline acts as a gateway to services such as: Crèche facilities Schemes for young people: money management courses, improving training skills and helping people develop their CV’s A rent and deposit bond scheme, helping people to rent their own flat when they are ready to live in the community againA harm reduction service helping those struggling with addictionsA homelessness prevention programme

Following the overwhelming support for the proposed devolution of Corporation Tax varying powers to Northern Ireland arising from the Treasury consultation on Rebalancing the Northern Ireland Economy last year, the Government set up a Joint Ministerial Working Group to look at the mechanics of how to devolve this power.

IoD Belfast has now moved to the Queen’s University Executive Education Centre at Riddel Hall, Stranmillis, providing modern meeting and working facilities, free wifi and parking. Agreement has been reached with the Ulster Reform Club to allow members to continue to use the facilities available at 4 Royal Avenue where members will still have access to the business room, dining room and various meetings rooms in this historic city centre building. The IoD Northern Ireland Committee has agreed its Strategy, which sets out a Vision for Northern Ireland to the most enterprising, outward looking and fastest growing economy in Europe by 2014.
Recognising that such a Vision must be achieved through the success of the private, public and third sectors, led by IoD members and other business leaders, the Strategy’s Mission is for the IoD NI Division to show leadership in creating an economic environment that supports an enterprising, outward looking and fast growing economy by:
• supporting leaders in their professional development• lobbying on issues that will achieve the Vision, and• providing benefits, services and networking opportunities that help and inspire members to grow their organisations
The Objectives of the Strategy are to position IoD as the leading business organisation for individual business leaders in Northern Ireland and to grow the IoD Northern Ireland membership by providing the professional development opportunities, lobbying focus, benefits, services and inspiration that will help members grow the Northern Ireland economy.
Progress towards the objectives will be actioned by the Division’s sub-committees and reported on quarterly to the Northern Ireland Committee.
